Temple makes hand-knotted rugs that behave like artwork — heavily textured, richly coloured, and built to be walked on barefoot. Each design begins from the smallest artistic gesture: a graphic glitch, a smudge on glass, the cut edge of a sculpture, enlarged and translated into wool and silk until it becomes a landscape for living.

There is rarely a pattern and almost never a repeat. What gives a Temple rug its presence is texture — multiple hand-carved pile heights, and the contrast between plush Tibetan wool and the shimmer of pure silk.

Founded in San Francisco in 2023 by artist and designer Eric Hildebrandt. Every rug is made to order in 100% natural materials — Tibetan wool, pure silk, cashmere and alpaca — customizable in size and colorway, and GoodWeave certified. Lead time is typically 12 to 16 weeks.
