Copper Oil is a hand-knotted wool and silk area rug by Temple Rugs, made to order in Nepal. It is an homage to painters who use material extravagantly — drips, streaks and standing pools of oil paint laid on thin canvas, built up in heavy layers over months and dried into a landscape of texture.
The rug is dense enough in color and detail to hold your eye from across a room, but it is really finished underfoot: wool and silk carved to several pile heights so the surface changes with every step.
Colorways are named for the raw stuff of the paint box — Lead Carbonate, Manganese, Cobalt Arsenate, Aluminum Stearate, Beeswax and Linseed. Both standard sizes suit a living room, and custom sizing is available.
