Malcusa makes rugs in Milan the way a gallery makes a programme — by finding an artist or designer worth working with, then giving them a loom. The house sits under Brand Milano Tessuti, pairing hand-crafting techniques followed to the letter in India and Europe with an Italian sense of proportion and colour.
The range is deliberately varied because each collection comes from a different head: Giulio Brambilla's architectural Mid C, Vanessa Ordoñez's wind-shaped Earth Revenge, Paolo Stella's Take Me Up, Lucy Naughton's hand-knotted compositions, 13.1 Studio's Novecento, and designs by Sarah Balivo, Daniele Daminelli, Raul, Janice Joostema and Betta K.
Every rug is made to order in wool, bamboo silk, viscose or linen — hand-tufted, hand-knotted or flatwoven depending on the design — and customizable in size and colorway. Production is typically six to eight weeks.
