Ever is a hand-tufted viscose and linen area rug by Paolo Stella for Malcusa, made to order in India at 6’7” x 9’10”.
Ever is the second word in Take Me Up — Where, Ever, You, Want, To Be — the five-rug collection Stella made for the house under his Suonare Stella imprint. The sentence only assembles if you own all five; each rug reads perfectly well alone.
A cut-and-loop pile runs from 12 to 30 millimetres, which is a wide range for a single rug and the reason the surface changes so much as you move around it. Viscose carries the sheen, linen the matte, hand-tufted in India over six to eight weeks.
Stella's route here ran through publishing and film before design: Elle, Lampoon, a Venice Film Festival Rising Star award, several bestselling novels, and a creative agency working with Chanel, Maserati and YSL.
