Letter is a hand-knotted viscose and linen area rug by Raul for Malcusa, made to order in India at 6’7” x 9’10”.
Raul works between the United States and Europe, and gesture is the whole of his method — instinct, speed, colour put down fast and left alone. The faces in his paintings belong to people he has met travelling; the streaks are the streets he walked. Nomadic Signs, the collection Letter belongs to, moves that immediacy onto the floor.
Unlike most of the Malcusa range, the Nomadic Signs rugs are hand-knotted rather than tufted, which holds the brushwork tight to the surface. Viscose and linen, made in India over six to eight weeks.
