Type: O is a hand-knotted wool and silk area rug by Temple Rugs, made to order in Nepal, and part of the Type collection — hand-made rugs drawn from hand-made letters.
The collection reads typography as texture: the gritty degradation of a punk show poster run through a copy machine, the heavy inked bite of a manual press, each design anchored by a single letter or numeral enlarged to room scale.
Type: O started as a small xeroxed “O” on a show poster in Seattle, then moved through cycles of scanning, distortion and digital manipulation before landing here, grown enormously from where it began. The rings ascend from the silk edges into the center of the rug and settle on a dense plateau. Colorways are named for Seattle clubs that no longer exist: Off Ramp, Tugs, Re-bar and OK Hotel.
