Type: U is a hand-knotted silk and wool area rug by Temple Rugs, made to order in Nepal at 9 x 12, and part of the Type collection — hand-made rugs drawn from hand-made letters.
The collection reads typography as texture: the gritty degradation of a show poster run through a copy machine, the heavy inked bite of a manual press, each design anchored by a single letter or numeral enlarged to room scale.
Type: U comes in two colorways that invert one another’s material balance: Urdu leads with silk, Unau with wool, so the same letterform reads either luminous or grounded depending on which you choose. Looped and cut pile are worked against each other at high and low heights, giving the rug real relief underfoot.
