Marine Terrace is a hand-knotted silk and wool area rug by Temple Rugs, made to order in Nepal, and the most coastal design in the collection.
The California coast holds off the Pacific with thick walls of sedimentary rock, their countless layers shifting imperceptibly under the water and their own weight. Above them sit marine terraces — sloping landforms lifted clear of sea level by tectonic movement and changes in the sea itself.
Walking on this rug works the same way: you are grounded in the plush strength of the wool and lifted on waves of silk, both densely knotted at high and low, intricately carved pile heights. Colorways pull rich coastal hues and take their names from regional seabirds — Snowy Plover, Loon, Killdeer, Cormorant and Willet.
