Concrete is a hand-knotted silk and wool area rug by Temple Rugs, made to order in Nepal. After water, concrete is the most-used substance on earth — and Temple has made it a foundation piece in the most literal sense.
The rug is a broken slab of a shape, with no pattern and no repeat anywhere in the field. Raised cut-pile silk rises above a low looped wool ground, and the contrast does all the work: soft and shimmering against dense and matte, carved throughout so the surface keeps shifting as you cross it.
Colorways read like a gravel yard — Dirty Water, Gravel, Sand and Crushed Stone. At 9 x 10’10” it works as a living room or dining room rug; a larger 10 x 12 is also standard.
