The Symmetry Plate is squared off and rounded at once, with crisp straight lines meeting softly curved edges. Like every piece in the collection, it is hand painted along a groove at its exact center, an exercise in precision on a material that rarely allows it.
Symmetry is the debut tableware collection from Studio Jialun Xiong: a cup, plate and bowl made with master artisans in Jingdezhen, the historic capital of Chinese porcelain. Jingdezhen porcelain is fired at very high temperatures and a large share of every batch is lost in the kiln, which is why so little of it is produced in volume or sold outside China. The geometry nods to Xiong's furniture, including Building Blocks and the Half Lamp.
