River & Ravine is a hand-knotted Tibetan wool and silk area rug by Temple Rugs, made to order in Nepal and shown at Carpet Diem Paris in 2024.
The rug is pure California — a meditation on the state’s land, seas and skies, and on the natural events that shape all three. The design borrows openly from the landscape around it: dry and flooded rivers, sun setting on the Pacific, golden hills, deep foggy valleys, and swaths of forest too often lost to wildfire.
The ravines that cut across the field are optional; the rug can be made with or without them. Colorways name the forces themselves: Flood, Wildfire, Fog, Mud and Storm. Available as an 8’ or 9’6” square rug, or custom.
