Formed from a reclaimed tree trunk, Night Log preserves the natural silhouette of the wood—its knots, cracks, and irregular contours tracing the memory of growth. Following an extensive drying process, the surface is sealed beneath layers of dark lacquer, transforming the material into something almost mineral, with a depth and sheen reminiscent of petrified wood. Light moves across it with a liquid quality, blurring the boundary between organic origin and refined finish.
Each piece is developed in direct response to the original trunk. Integrated compartments are carved into the form, their placement and proportion determined by the wood’s natural anatomy. These recessed volumes introduce a functional dimension—serving as discreet storage for books, personal objects, or bedside essentials—while maintaining the integrity of the sculptural form. Where required, subtle interventions are made to stabilize or elevate the piece, ensuring balance without compromising its raw character.
Equally suited as a side table or bedside table, Night Log operates between utility and artifact. A singular composition where nature is not erased, but refined—held in a state of suspended transformation.
