Michel Pendant is a hand-stitched goat parchment pendant light by Studio Nicholas Obeid, made to order in New York over a matte glass globe. 14" wide, 17" high, with a custom drop length.
The shade is domestically sourced goat parchment, stitched by hand from a metal frame with waxed linen thread over about ten hours. The skins are stretched, cut and sanded to an even thickness and then left alone — no finish is applied — so the natural variation in tone and texture is what you see when the lamp is lit. Inside sits a matte glass globe; the light comes through the hide rather than past it.
This is the standard-scale Michel, the one that suits a dining table, an entry or a bedside pair. The frame comes in aged brass, polished brass or mottled nickel, each a hand-applied wax finish. Drop length is made to order.
Parchment is a natural material and will respond to humidity, temperature and light — it may ripple or shift slightly over time, and variation in colour, movement and translucency is expected rather than a fault. Keep it out of direct sunlight and heat, clean with a dry cloth only, and use the low-heat LED supplied rather than an incandescent bulb.
