The Cult Stool is a hand-sculpted stone stool and side table, cut from Mexican marble and onyx. It draws on a primal sculptural-architectural language while presenting its materials in a modernist manner, letting the eccentric pattern formations of each block reign over the final appearance. Every edition is a unique piece.
Working with stones endemic to Mexico contextualises the work at a geological level, situating each piece in a continuing and evolving historical narrative. Like taking part in an archaeological exploration, native stone reveals a heritage of meticulous craftsmanship developed under the possibilities and limitations of local materials. When sculpting stone you only get one chance to get it right: as each rock is different, form must be tailored onto the material, discovering what each piece hides.
Available in honey marble, white onyx, green onyx, blue calcite and black lacquer. Stone pattern and tone are unique to each piece and cannot be guaranteed to match the images shown. Custom colours and materials quoted on request.
