Taking its name from the shortened version of colonna, meaning column in Italian, The Onna Collection’s concept is derived from the simple idea of two intersecting circles or columns. Its origin was inspired by a trip to Italy that Swell Studio’s founder, Mike White, took with his partner, Nikki Pettus. There they observed breccia pernice’s permeation and utilization in Italian art, architecture, and design. Additionally, The  Onna Collection’s articulated vernacular was confirmed by a visit to the Carlo Scarpa Gavina property, located in Bologna.
